Individual Therapy and Counseling Services
in Winter Park/ Orlando Florida

If you struggle with disordered eating then you may also struggle with overwhelm, anxiety and depression. Know that you are not alone. I will show you how to use these struggles as a backdrop for your self-evolution and personal empowerment.

Individual therapy, a popular and highly effective treatment mode, offers an opportunity for intense focus on what holds you back in your life as well as what's going to help move you forward.

The goals of individual therapy include increased self-awareness and insight, the resolution of past traumas, identifying and overcoming negative core beliefs and learning new and positive coping skills.

I specialize in working with clients who struggle with eating disorders, anxiety, depression, and trauma/abuse

I use an eclectic therapy approach that combines mindfulness training, talk therapy, experiential exercises, expressive arts and other practical counseling methods.

For you, this means working with a therapist who has a variety of different proven tools, methods and training all working to support your optimal growth and empowerment. Often, using a combination of therapeutic methods produces more rapid and radical growth than using one method alone.

Here's What You Can Expect from Counseling

1. Free initial phone consultation:
When you call me, I will ask you to briefly outline your major concerns and symptoms that need attention. From there, I will tell you if I am able to support you in meeting your goals through counseling. From our conversation, we can both decide if we are a fit to work together.

2. First Therapy Session
We will schedule an hour and a half initial session. We will complete a thorough and detailed assessment of your struggles and begin to identify your goals for therapy. In the process, you will gain a better sense of working with me.

My clients report feeling more hopeful and positive about creating a healthier and more empowering life after this first session!

By the end of this first counseling session, I will provide you with my perspective on your struggles as well as recommendations for treatment. The first session is billed at a different rate than regular session fees due to the extended session time.

3. Subsequent Counseling sessions
Based on your needs, schedule and budget, we will book follow-up sessions. I will ask you to commit to yourself by whole-heartedly engaging in the therapeutic process. This means remaining open to feedback or suggestions, completing any "homework" assigned in between sessions, be willing to try new, healthier coping skills and honesty.

The essence of effective therapy begins with the therapeutic alliance:

A strong and trusting relationship between a client and their therapist, the therapeutic alliance, is the strongest factor that predicts positive outcomes in treatment and goal achievement. Research has shown that the therapeutic alliance is more important than the type of therapy or intervention being applied to the client.

Once this foundation of trust has been established, I use a 5-step process outlined below.

My 5-Step Therapy Approach to An Empowered You Includes:

1. Become More Present Through Mindfulness Training

Mindfulness is about getting present to the here and now, right now. Learning to get present in the moment versus getting stuck in our heads, negative thought patterns and unhealthy behaviors is critical to decreasing your suffering.

I will show you how mindfulness can help you develop an intimate and focused awareness of your whole self: thoughts, perceptions, emotions and behaviors. I will teach you simple and concrete methods for increasing your self-awareness that will positively affect all aspects of your life.

Studies show that some of the benefits of mindfulness training include:
• Decreased anxiety, depression and stress
• Rewiring the brain for greater happiness and ease
• Increased self-compassion
• Decreased urges to binge or emotionally eat
• More effective and healthy coping abilities
• Improved self-esteem
• Increased vitality and enthusiasm for life

2. Reconnect to Your Body

Perfectionists like you, tend to live in your mind, disconnected from yourself from the neck down.

The goals of learning to reconnect with your body are to help you better manage stress, increase self-awareness and to restore intuition. We do this through experiential exercises such as following your breath, noticing your five senses and other activities that really get you in your body. This allows you to deeply experience your body from the inside out.

3. Discover How To Better Nourish Yourself Emotionally

Perfectionists are notoriously bad at self-care. That is, you are probably better at taking care of others than taking care of yourself.

Emotional nourishment is about finding the right alchemy of affirming thoughts, self-loving practices, supportive people and life enhancing activities that feeds you from the inside out.

Emotions are such an important part of getting empowered. By learning to honor and act upon your authentic needs and emotions, a fulfilling and empowered life free from depression, anxiety and stress becomes reality.

4. Overcome any Family of Origin Issues

Your first family, the one you grew up in, will tell me a lot about how your learned to relate to others, yourself and your body. Often, patterns of communication, conflict resolution, problem solving and general worldview shaped in your family of origin affects your present day experience.

Through gentle inquiry, a non-judgmental stance and unconditional kind regard, I will support you in achieving greater insight so that you can heal old wounds that have prevented you from stepping fully into your power.

5. Restore Self-Esteem, Self Worth and Self Confidence

Any "toxic" environment is any environment where your experiences, feelings or opinions have been minimized or invalidated. Many "Perfectionists" grew up in homes where accomplishment, such as straight A's, sitting first chair in orchestra or thinness, was the only measure of success.

Expressing emotional struggle such as asking for help or crying, were judged as a "weakness" or "something must be wrong with you." You may also need to heal from any "toxic" relationships or experiences you have had as an adult.

Recovering from the "I'm not enough" trap requires patience, practice and perspective. Consciously plugging into a whole new perspective of you begins with first identifying "core beliefs" that negatively impact your sense of self. From there, I work with you to create a more positive, sustainable and healthy definition of an empowered you.
